Ultrasonic pickup units are designed to pick up ultrasonic signals from UTensor II sensors glued to the head of the bolt. The surrounding magnet attaches itself to the bolt head while the centered spring-loaded probe of the pickup touches an exposed surface of the UTensor II, which is glued to the bolt. A temperature sensor is embedded in the unit to measure the bolt temperature. The MC900 uses the temperature data to compensate for elongation due to the temperature changes.

External Temperature Sensor
If the built-in bolt temperature sensor in the pickup unit is not available, then an external temperature sensor could be used to measure the temperature changes on the bolt. The high-temp magnet surrounding the sensor holds the temperature sensor in place on a bolt or elsewhere on the application joint.
